Drew's Top 25 Songs: Part 4/5

It took a few weeks (months?), but we're finally in the final ten.

10. Violent Femmes - "Kiss Off"
VF's self-titled debut was an album that I kept putting off buying for a few years. I can't really remember why, I just recall seeing it at record stores and saying, "I will get this...but not today." Eventually, the day came, and it was worth the wait. I still wish I got it sooner, though. Before this, I didn't know countdowns could be so much fun.

9. My Bloody Valentine - "Sometimes"
I loved this song before I even knew I loved this song. It was featured in Lost in Translation, and I had heard it in there but had no idea who it was or if it was even more than a part of the score. At this time I knew My Bloody Valentine existed, but couldn't tell you a thing about them other than Isaac Brock's love of the band. Two years later, I got the album and thought it was the greatest thing ever. I know it's in my top ten.

8. Devo - "Gut Feeling / (Slap Your Mammy)"
I enjoyed "Whip It" as an MTV-watching child, but it wasn't until I saw The Life Aquatic (what's up with me and Bill Murray films?) that I was convinced to give Devo an honest shot. I don't remember why, it could have just been that Mark Mothersbaugh wrote the score for it and I liked the "Ping Island" song. Either way, I bought their first album a few weeks later. The day afterwards, I was listening to it and just as the intro led into the verse I ran my car into a van. The disc got a scratch, but it still plays fine.

7. Eels - "Susan's House"
"Novocaine for the Soul" was one of my favorite videos as a kid. When I first discovered the internet, I set out to find out more about it. That led me to Eels' "Beautiful Freak." On there was this song, and I dug it. Obviously.
Buy this album.

6. The Beach Boys - "God Only Knows"
I debated which Beach Boys song to pick. It was between "Feel Flows" and "I Just Wasn't Made for These Times." Really though, this is one of the best songs ever written. It'd be hard to top that.
Buy this album.

I wish it would rain more often. It's rained the past two days, but it gives me a reason to sit inside and do nothing.
Also, who the hell tried to break into my car? Not cool, society. Not cool.

Tomorrow is only a day away.

I promise I will make the next installment tomorrow.

In the meantime, I made a list of 101 (so far) movies I want to see. I may post that sometime soon. I also sanded down my bass and may get around to repainting it by the time school starts back up. If I do repaint it, I'll show the end product here.
