Something for the end of the year.

I'm sure there have been countless Best of 2007 lists everywhere. And I'm sure that most of them shared a lot of the same albums. Regardless, I'm going to do some list by tomorrow night. It will either be what came out this year or what I listened to the most this year. Maybe even both? Depends how bored I am.

Okay, so here they are, my favorites of 2007 (in no specific order).

Best Albums:

Best Songs (not including anything off of the best albums):
  • Feist - "1 2 3 4" buy
Don't let it's commercial use fool you, this song and the album it comes from are both great. It's almost been ruined for me by all the iPod commercials, but not yet.
  • M.I.A. - "Paper Planes" buy
I wasn't a huge fan of the song "Boyz," but I really dig this one. Maybe it's the Clash sample?
  • Justice - "D.A.N.C.E." buy
It's stuff like this that makes me wish I actually could dance.
  • The Shins - "Sleeping Lessons" buy
Honorable mention: "Australia." This is one of those songs that I view as the perfect album opener (think "Teen Age Riot" on Daydream Nation or "My Name is Jonas" on The Blue Album) in the way that it starts off soft and slow then has a point when it kicks in. Also, I'm an insomniac. No joke.
  • The Teenagers - "Homecoming" buy?
It's like a modern day "Summer Nights" that a guy doesn't have to be embarrassed about liking.
  • Thurston Moore - "Fri / End" buy
I still find it very odd to hear Thurston with an acoustic guitar and violinist, but makes me want to see SY live all the more (as I've had to work the past two times they came to town, dammit).
  • Stephen Malkmus - "Ballad of a Thin Man" buy
One of my favorite musicians covering my second favorite Dylan song, can't go wrong with that.
  • Spoon - "The Underdog" buy
This is also one of those that came off of a great album that just missed my top five.
What I've Listened to the Most This Year (according to my last.fm account):
Artists:
  1. Guided by Voices
  2. My Bloody Valentine
  3. They Might Be Giants
  4. Built to Spill
  5. Dinosaur Jr
Albums:
  1. Guided by Voices - Alien Lanes
  2. The Minutemen - Double Nickels on the Dime
  3. Guided by Voices - Bee Thousand
  4. My Bloody Valentine - Isn't Anything
  5. Modest Mouse - We Were Dead...
Tracks:
  1. My Bloody Valentine - six different songs... (four tied at #3)
  2. Pavement - "Silence Kid"
  3. Ramones - "Danny Says"
  4. Guided by Voices - "Watch Me Jumpstart"
  5. Eels - "My Beloved Monster"

And so that is that. In case I don't make another post before it, happy new year and whatever holiday(s) you may or may not celebrate.

I'll post links and stuff before the end of the year.

Newest purchases.

I bought Miracle Legion's Drenched on cassette a long while back and it was a great buy. However, the fact that it was on cassette meant that I would need more than just a CD-Rom drive to put it on my computer and listen to it anywhere but my car. After scouring the internet in hopes of finding the mp3 files (it's legal if I own it, dammit) with no success, I decided to check eBay. Lo and behold, a few people were selling it, so I bought one. It arrived today, and now I shall share part of my treasures with you.

Miracle Legion - "With a Wish"
Miracle Legion - "Sooner"
Buy a used copy of Drenched from here or here.
After that, go here to buy anything by Miracle Legion, Polaris or Mark Mulcahy.
Also, I own "Surprise Surprise Surprise" on vinyl, but I don't have the necessary items to transfer it to my computer. If you already have it uploaded, want to share the files? Thanks.

I also found a used record of the Replacements' Let it Be which was in perfect condition (except that some jerk named Fox wrote his name on it before he sold it). I don't think I have expressed any love for the 'Mats on here before, but that just means that it is time to start.

Replacements - "Androgynous"
Replacements - "Seen Your Video"
Buy this here. And enjoy it, dammit.
