I was looking through my music collection and noticed I had quite a few songs that were simply girl's names.

Andrew Vincent and the Pirates - "Diane" from their myspace

Apples in Stereo - "Ruby" from Her Wallpaper Reverie

Barenaked Ladies - "Enid" from Gordon

Barenaked Ladies - "Jane" from Maybe You Should Drive

Beatles - "Michelle" from Rubber Soul

Ben Folds Five - "Kate" from Whatever and Ever Amen

Built to Spill - "Cleo" from There's Nothing Wrong with Love

Cake - "Daria" from Fashion Nugget

Cake - "Jolene" from Motorcade of Generosity

Derek and the Dominoes - "Layla" from Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs or Best of Clapton

Elvis Costello - "Alison" from My Aim is True

The Fall - "Victoria" from The Frenz Experiment

Flake Music - "Mieke" from When You Land Here, It's Time To Return

Frank Black - "Violet" from Honeycomb

Franz Ferdinand - "Jacqueline" from Franz Ferdinand

Gelatinus Cube - "Margot" from Overseen by Computers of Tender Loving Care

Okay, 17 songs is enough for now, I guess I'll have to split this up as well. Expect another post about names within a week.

Ween.

Ween just posted tour dates on their website, and I was pleased to find that they're coming to Cleveland's House of Blues on Thursday, October 25. This is exciting because this is the first time they've come around here since I got into them. I started listening to them about three months after a show in Lakewood, and have really wanted to see them since I saw their "Live in Chicago" dvd. In my excitement for this event, I've decided to post stuff by the band. Because while they have a lot of good songs, they also have a lot of noise, which always seems to be the first thing people get if I recommend that they listen to the band; in turn, this always makes the person lose confidence in my musical tastes and never listen to anything I do ever again. Anyhow, here are some choice songs by Dean and Gene.

"Don't Laugh (I Love You)" off of God Ween Satan
"Baby Bitch" off of Chocolate and Cheese
"Piss Up a Rope" off of 12 Golden Country Greats
"Mutilated Lips" off of The Mollusk
"Even If You Don't" off of White Pepper
"Chocolate Town" off of Quebec
"All of My Love (Led Zeppelin cover)" can be found on the Live in Chicago dvd.

Buy all these albums.

Tour Dates (so far):
Oct 16 - Bloomington, IN - Bluebird Nightclub
Oct 17 - Urbana, IL - The Canopy Club
Oct 19 - Madison, WI - Orpheum: Madison
Oct 20 - Chicago, IL - Aragon Ballroom
Oct 22 - St. Louis, MO - The Pageant
Oct 23 - Columbus, OH - Lifestyle Communities Pavilion
Oct 25 - Cleveland, OH - House of Blues
Oct 27 - Detroit, MI - State Theater
Nov 30 - New York, NY - Terminal 5
Dec 1 - New York, NY - Terminal 5

Check here for updates and other Ween info. Tickets for the Columbus show are $25, and with Ticketmaster's "greedy nazi fees" (as I call them) will probably come to something around $32.

Drew's Top 25 Songs: Part 5/5

Almost done. I'm just going to do a quick run-through of these, and try not to go much into why I like them. They should speak for themselves, and I realized that I seem to say the same type of thing about every song.

5. The Beatles - "Golden Slumbers"
What a hard decision this was. The Beatles are the kind of band that I don't feel necessary to mention when people ask, "what do you listen to?" Why is this? Because everybody likes (or should like, for those who--for some reason I cannot comprehend--do not like) them. It's the same reason I don't own any Beatles merchandise. I love the band, but I don't need to wear it on my sleeve, it should already be known. Anyways, it was either this, "A Day in the Life", "Something", "Here, There and Everywhere" or "While My Guitar Gently Weeps." This is one of the hardest decisions I've ever made.
Buy this album.

4. Sonic Youth - "Teen Age Riot"
Best album opener ever. The song is about a dream world of Thurston where J Mascis is the president, which explains the working title for it, "Rock and Roll for President." Another song that made me want to play guitar. I even sacrificed a pack of strings to re-tune one of my guitars to both Lee and Thurston's tunings (GGDDGG and GABDEG, respectively) to try it. I've read that they have played it in standard live a few times. I'd love to find out exactly how they did that, because my interpretations never turn out as nice as I'd like them to.
Buy this album.

3. Modest Mouse - "3rd Planet"
"Think Long" may have gotten me started, but this is what hooked me. Just a solid song. I wanted to quote it for some high school thingy, but couldn't because it said "fuckin' people over." I went with Bright Eyes instead. Nowhere near as good.
Buy this album.

2. Pixies - "Hey"
Oddly enough, these top three songs are by my top three favorite bands. Kinda sad, but makes sense.
Buy this album.

1. Weezer - "Across the Sea"
And to think, I skipped this song on my first few listens through Pinkerton. Geez, I was a stupid kid. I just listened to the Blue Album over again after reading some article claiming that Jimmy Page, Ronnie Wood and Andy Summers voted "Only In Dreams" as their number 8 best guitar track. Who knew? Anyways, I may make an entire post about my favorite Weezer songs. Pathetic, eh?
Buy this album.

Well, that was fun. I hope people like these songs as much as I do. I think I may start writing actual posts starting next week.
